Search Engine Result Page...Oh you mean SERP

Search Engine Result Page, a.k.a. a SERP, comes in two forms. Paid SERP and Organic SERP.
Basically, it just means that a SERP is a list of Web pages.  If you have spent much time at all on Google, Bing, Yahoo, or your favorite search engine you have seen these before. Below is a picture of both organic and paid SERP from Google.

SERP's are important for your business.  There is no argument to this.  How your business will appear to the person searching will either lead them to you, or away from you.  Sometimes if this is a flooded market  it will be difficult to reach that customer due to "Paid" SERPS.   There are tips for making your page, or business stand out against paid SERPS.
  1. Work toward your specific content.  Your Customers may know who you are, and even what you do, but if you can be as specific as possible about your site, this can help your customer find you easier.  If you were the owner of Alabama Wholesale Socks, and someone searched for "Wholesale Socks" several business who sale wholesale would appear. However if your business, Alabama Wholesale Socks, sold a specific brand, Let's say Doc's Med Socks, and someone searched for "Wholesale Doc's Med Socks" you would rank high or highest among search engines.  Generalization does not work as well as specifics.
  2. Research the key words that best describe you. Keywords, are what describe what you do.  If you are a teacher, you would not need the keyword for small engine repair to be a word you key words.  Using <tags> correctly will help with this in your <meta> information.  This is geek talk, by the way.
  3. Consider PPC.  Yet another acronym.  Yes Paid Per Click may be valuable to you.  Google and Bing will "offer" free amounts if you use their webmaster tools, but in our experience this has not been very successful.  Not saying that it can not be, but if you are going to be successful, be prepared to open your wallet, because it can become costly.

After reading this article you may feel that this is a lot of work, that is because it can be.  The main point is to grow your business.  At times this can be done yourself, but if you are not tech savy, you may want to consider hiring someone else to do this.  However, consider your cost because you do want to get the best value for your money, just like your customer...who is searching for your business...right now!
Have a Blessed day!
