We all know that Google dominates the search engine market, but recent data released from comScore, has shown that Bing has risen 0.3% points to crest over the 20 percent mark. While Yahoo was once the second , they have fallen behind Bing. This while leaving AOL at the bottom of the pack.
In May 2009, Yahoo was in the position that Bing is in as of today. Bing, however, launched in June of 2009, so having competition between the two was not needed in May 2009. Just and FYI, Microsoft (Bing) and Yahoo joined forces in July 2009 to form a search alliance.
Google’s is down a tenth of a point from last month, at 64.4 percent, but still holds strong the search engine force. We all know that people refer to "Google" something, However search volumes at all the major engines saw growth, and at some point in the future, we may refer to "Bing" something, although it sounds like hitting something....not searching. The effective reach of Bing is nearly 33 percent, given that it serves both Yahoo ad search and organic search results.
I think it is safe to say that web developers and SEO experts are going to have to make sure that we do not only watch for updates form Google and Google Webmaster Tools, but that We also watch to see what Bing is doing....if your are not already...which you should be!
