- Domain Names that are keyword specific. In September of 2012 the exact-match domain update devalued many keyword-specific domain names that ranked well due to their name, a name that did not relate to their brand. Building your brand name, and establishing it is far better than trying to use a URL name that is not related to your product.
- Microsites. In an attempt to build backlinks to their parent site, companies would build micosites to help point to their product and brands. However, too many jargon redirects became harmful. Google could determine devalued sites. This with the cost of owning microsites is not not impractical, but should be avoided.
- Hidden links. Using a text that color matches the background or image of your host site is never a good idea for link building. Sites would do this to try to boost their SEO in the past. Having these can lead to a high bounce rate, which devalues your site.
- Keyword overload. Google’s Panda algorithm will detect and devalue keyword overload. In the past, sites would use this strategy so the Google would detect content and gain value for their site. However, in today's Internet World it is far better to use quality over quantity. Keyword overload can also be done in Title tags, and Meta-Tags, it is important to let be specific with your SEO, even in HTML.
- Have a clean Website. if you have a business website, what is the point of the site? To share your information. If your site is an E-Commerce site, what is it's point...to sell right? So why run your customers through hoops with a dirty website? Your customers know what they want, and you want to sell it to them. So be sure to have a site which links from your page to a smooth transaction process. This ensures that your customers are happy and you get the sale.
